Driving Participation

MODIFYING BEHAVIOR THROUGH INCENTIVES

So, how do we plan to change behavior?  Simply put… BRIBERY!!

The intent of this proposed project is to incentivize the desired behavior of the Whitley Countians in our project and those around them.

Through the use of mobile technology coupled with our tracking solutions, we will track the 3 E’s.

  • Free use of mobile technology will be the main incentive.
  • Free or reduced priced fruits and vegetables
  • Monetary rewards for uploading the tracking data
  • And chances to win prizes for attending functions (such as health fairs, hiking or biking outings, and doctors’ appointments)

These will all be used  incentives to drive  participation.  Our desire is to change the behavior and show how eating right can lead to weight loss and added energy levels.

We have investigated other local programs under development such as the the Farm Program for the Whitley County Detention Center. In that program, inmates will participate in all aspects of planting and harvesting crops. There will be educational and training benefits for those who participate, as well the facility anticipates realizing a cost reduction of more than $130,000 annually by utilizing their own farm products versus buying them commercially.

While our project does not reflect a direct payback like the program listed above, we do believe there are substantial and long-lasting benefits to be realized. Once our participants have been exposed to the healthier non-processed Kentucky grown foods, they will continue to eat better long past the term of this project. This will foster a “growing need” pardon the pun, for more of these products in the future, providing a huge long-term payback to the local agriculture industry.
