Diet vs Exercise
The 3 E’s, Eat Healthy, Exercise and Examination, is a common sense approach to this weight problem.  The first two E’s (Eating Healthy and Exercise) need to be in balance but always seem to be at war with each other.

You can focus only on one or the other and maintain a healthy weight.  If you don’t exercise at all, diet is the focus and what you consume needs to be considered.  If you get a lot of exercise, you could probably eat whatever you desired.  If you consider these extremes, there is a balance; limited exercise, limited eating or continuous eating, continuous exercise.

As with most things moderation is a better method of choice.  The third of the E’s is Examinations.  Daily journal, weekly self-monitoring, monthly blood panels and Quarterly checkups all ensure the balance, motivate participants, and find discrepancies that an individual may have.

This common sense approach, the 3E’s, can be simply shown as a child’s teeter totter.  The first 2 E’s, Eating Healthy and Exercise must be in balance.  Examination, being the fulcrum that they are balanced upon, shows any imbalance.

Another analogy could be called the conservation of energy.  Food is our fuel and exercise is the way we use (or burn) it.  Similar to our vehicle, we add gas, it is burned to produce movement, heat, electricity and other waste.  Unfortunately our body doesn’t work like our car.  We can overfill the tank.  Our body’s conservation of energy design is to store that extra fuel as FAT.  In the energy example, that is balance.  But, that balancing FAT can be a health nightmare.
