The Kentucky Department of Agriculture administers many programs. The Division of Food Distribution contributes to the nutritional well being of the citizens of Kentucky by distributing USDA commodities to eligible recipient agencies. Food Distribution administers food programs; such as, Child Nutrition Commodity Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program, Emergency Food Assistance Program, and Farm to School.

The goals of the Eat to Win program are: To educate Kentucky students about the importance of incorporating fruits and vegetables into their daily diets, with an end-goal of encouraging them to consume five or more servings per day. To encourage Kentucky students to maintain a healthy weight by eating more fruits and vegetables while maintaining a physically active lifestyle. To motivate Kentucky students to consume more fruits and vegetables and consume less highly fattening, sweetened foods and beverages. To make Kentucky students aware that locally grown fruits and vegetables are best because they are fresher, at their peak for nutrient content, and support their local and state economies. Most importantly, to cultivate long-term healthy eating habits among Kentucky students. Remember, good nutrition isn’t just for athletes. It’s for everyone. Eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day can help you achieve your goals and dreams, in school, in the workplace, and in life. Read more…
